65. The Crusade, Part II: The Knight of Jaffa

Resorted to the Loose Cannon reconstruction for this episode.

Some legit actors in this story between Jean Marsh (recent R.I.P.) and Julian Glover. And kudos to the producers of the show for casting a culturally appropriate (as far as I can tell) actress for the part of Sheyrah. Her accent sounded a little too good compared to the show's usual pasty-white-British-guy-doing-a-very-inappropriate-performance-by-today's-standards schtick, so I looked her up.

Random notes:

  • I don’t know if it’s because of the crude reconstruction or if it was a problem in the original show, but some things were hard to follow, e.g., why is Vicki suddenly in drag?
  • Anybody in a 60s-era Doctor Who historical with a facial disfigurement is guaranteed to be playing somebody evil. First there was eyepatch guy in Marco Polo, and this one has scar guy.
  • I’m not sure Barbara being taken to a harem (or “hah-reem” as the actor pronounced it) is appropriate for a children’s show.
