38. The Reign of Terror, Part II: Guests of Madame Guillotine
Susan seems remarkably calm – almost out of character – when going to and from her cell. Especially considering she’s about to be decapitated. Then, more in character, she totally freaks out when she sees some rats. I guess her level of freak out varies depending on what advances the plot.
Odds and ends:
- More casual threatened sexual assault in this episode, and poor Barbara always bears the brunt of it. Sigh.
- Is the Doctor going to rescue Jean-Pierre’s dad?
- The Doctor seems unnecessarily hostile to people who have the ability to imprison him.
- Is this the only story where the incidental music includes a harpsichord?
- I remember "City of Death" pretty well. What is it with stories set in France that cause the director to include scenes of the Doctor frolicking while jaunty music plays?
