Unearthly Child, Part II: The Cave of Skulls

Some observations:

  • Za spends an awful long time trying to start a fire and does plenty of ACTING in the process
  • The TARDIS’ journey was apparently extremely rough, but only for Ian and Barbara.
  • The Doctor gets referred to as “Dr. Foreman” a couple times, which I’d already forgotten was a thing.
  • The Doctor smokes a pipe – a bad role model for the kids, to be sure – but keep in mind this is one year before the U.S. Surgeon General’s landmark 1964 report on the health effects of smoking.
  • Susan gets hysterical.
  • The father of the woman Za wants to marry doesn’t seem old enough to have already retired as leader of the monosyllabically named people. It seems like he should take over again – if only to stop the bickering between Za and Kal.
  • The fight choreography was confusing. Ian, Barbara, and Susan appear suddenly without warning.
  • What material do the cave people use to tie the travelers’ hands so effectively?
  • This seems like a good way not to think about the election tomorrow.
