11. The Daleks, Part VII: The Rescue

I was getting James Bond villain vibes from the Daleks in this episode. First, they needlessly restrain the Doctor and Susan when they could have just killed them. Then, the Daleks explain their plans in great detail to their captors, which certainly helps with plot exposition. Finally, there’s an unnecessary countdown to the final part of their dastardly plans. Dr. No came out one year prior to this story airing, so maybe the James Bond comparison is not a coincidence. Either that, or it’s a premonition of Dr. Evil from Austin Powers.

In the end, the Daleks put up impressively meek resistance, being thwarted by a few rocks being thrown. Also, Barbara and her Thal admirer seemed to bond remarkably quickly.
